Bristol, the most popular city in the South West, is built around the River Avon, and has grown into a maritime city of culture, heritage, and prosperity.  The commercial Port, now moved to the Severn Estuary, has brought a lot of industry into the city, and Brunel’s SS Great Britain, the world’s first great ocean liner, stands at the gateway to the old port as a reminder of this. Bristol’s Colston Hall is in fact undergoing a massive refurbishment scheme to turn it into one of the UKs top music venues, to stand alongside the new Arnolfini centre of contemporary art, and the Watershed, a new digital media centre.

Bristol attracts thousands of tourists for its annual festivals such as the Harbour festival, Organic food festival, and the International balloon fiesta adding to the buzzing atmosphere.

Bristol’s engineering aspect has granted it the nickname "science city".  It is highly recognised for its excellence in science education and research, high-tech business incubation facility, and even its popular science museum.
